Scaffolding Location Castle Drogo, Devon
Castle Drogo is a country house and mixed-revivalist castle near Drewsteignton, Devon, England. Constructed between 1911 and 1930, it was the last castle to be built in England. The client was Julius Drewe, the hugely successful founder of the Home and Colonial Stores.
Gwella have recently undertaken asbestos removal work at Castle Drogo within various locations following on from a refurbishment survey which identified asbestos insulation material within the boiler house, basement and adjacent rooms.
Asbestos based material was commonly used throughout the 20th century and would have been used as insulation on pipework, boilers and associated plant. Although the material may have been removed in the past, it is often the case when asbestos surveys are undertaken that traces of asbestos material can still be found on walls and plant due to previous standards of removal works which were are not in-line with today’s procedures.
