Home / Business / Christmas Update

Christmas Update

We’ve had a great year working with our customers across the UK, and with planned works already in the schedule, it looks like there’s no letting-up in 2022 either! We’ve exceeded our targets for the past year and we’d like to share just a few of the ways in which Gwella’s business strategy has led to some exciting developments.

Expansion

We’ve invested heavily in expanding our national reach to help support our housing associations clients with asbestos removals, as well as raising our profile in new locations. 2021 saw the opening of our Southampton and Somerset offices which now have a full complement of Regional Managers, support staff, vehicles and equipment.

Aiming High

Over the last calendar year, we have managed to increase our customer base by over 133%. We are absolutely delighted with the results and confident that our business strategy is working well.

With the increase in customers our business has really gathered pace this year with an increase in turnover of 155.5% compared to last year. We’re extremely grateful to all our of customers, both new and old. Thank you for helping us to build a stronger, sustainable business.

Growing Team & Assets

The busier we are, the more people and assets we need to support our daily operations. As we roll-out of 2021, we have needed to recruit more staff at all levels of the business. Our team is now 100% bigger than it was this time last year. The family is growing strong from 30 employees last year to 60 this year. It’s amazing having such a great family team and being able to fully support our growing customer base.

Accreditations

Gwella’s typical high standards of work and administrative processes have meant that we have been able to retain all of our accreditation awards as last year. We’re endured numerous on-site checks over the year and were delighted by our most recent ACAD site inspection where we achieved an impressive 100% score.

Asbestos Training

Gwella are now approved to provide a range of Asbestos Training courses to other companies and we are now members of the Independent Asbestos Training Providers. We have a dedicated Training Manager and offer regular asbestos awareness courses to companies throughout the UK.

Streamlining Business Systems

Making our company more efficient has always formed the backbone of our business strategy and this year we introduced the phased roll-out of a system called SimPRO. This cloud-based software ties together every part of our sales, scheduling and support process and gives us instant access to extremely useful data. It is with this information that we can focus on improving various factors of our business, including; response times, pricing and customer support.

Awards

It’s always great to be recognised for all the hard work that has been put into a business, especially being such a young company as Gwella. We were delighted to be shortlisted for the South West Business Award in April of this year, but ecstatic to have recently won the Western Morning News Start-Up Business of the Year Award just last week.

Community Spirit

Since its inception, Gwella has always felt like a family business where we all work together to achieve shared goals. Our community-spirited ethos has allowed us to sponsor local football and rugby teams, take part in the BBC’s DIY SOS programme where we offered our services for free. Gwella also support Plant One Cornwall, a community interest company that brings business, individuals and landowners together to plant trees in Cornish soil. Their mission is to create a habitat that benefits native wildlife and keeps Cornwall a green and special land.
