Army Aviation Centre (AAC) Middle Wallop is a British Army airfield located near the Hampshire village of Middle Wallop, used for Army Air Corps training.
Gwella Contracting Services were delighted in being awarded our first contract with Vinci Defence securing the technical asbestos removal, clean and reinstatement works to the Main Boilerhouse for the camp.
Licensed asbestos residue had been located throughout the building, both on and under the wall paint, also being present within the service ducts. Using a methodical and safe systemof quill blasting, our site team successfully completed the removal back to the building’s original brick finish.
We then encountered additional works when asbestos insulation board was discovered within the adjacent plant room. We acted promptly, re-notifying the works which were conducted safely and successfully before we encapsulated the existing asbestos roof with a ET150 finish.
Throughout the project, carefully constructed enclosures were used during the removal process in order to mitigate any risk on this working military base.
To ensure sufficient observation of all working areas from outside the enclosures, a CCTV system was installed, allowing our client and third parties to review our progress and validate our work.
All reinstatement and electrical works were completed by Vinci approved contractor, Henderson’s, to a very high standard and we would like to thank them for their support throughout the project.
This 12 week project was completed on time and on budget to the delight of Vinci Defence and their MoD client.
“The project was quite a complex process, with the Management of Electrical Contractor ensuring electrical services safely removed and disconnected of the walls and ceiling of the Main Boiler house. Gwella did a great job working closely with other Contractors, ensuring that the overall project ran smoothly and efficiently. The Gwella team did a really professional job of the quilling back to bare brick and concrete. They went the extra mile, identifying additional areas that had been discovered during works and got those works done in a very timely fashion and were praised by Vinci and DIO. Looking forward to working with Gwella on any of our future projects.”
