The long awaited scheme to create new retirement rented housing in Brixham on the site of former St Kilda care home.
Gwella Contracting Services were appointed to remove all asbestos containing materials (ACM’s) before demolition could commence by expert specialists, Demolition South West.
Working safely from fixed scaffolding the complex project involved the removal of insulation board panels, risers and soffits under fully controlled conditions.
The 15 week project also required removal of Vinyl Floor tiles, bitumen adhesive and Textured Coating ceilings.
All ACM’s were removed methodically and safely, and to client’s delight on time with their programme.
Gwella were delighted to play our part in delivering this fantastic scheme for the Torbay community and council, working closely alongside two prestigious clients, such as Classic Builders & DSW.
The 1970s built accommodation will be replaced with 23 high quality one and two bedroom flats which are due to be finished in 2026 and will be let to local households aged 55 and over.
