Gwella Contracting Services have recently carried-out an emergency asbestos removal operation at Torbay Hospital in Devon. We had to overcome some very difficult challenges, as we were facing some extremely tight restraints.
Work to remove some asbestos ceiling panels was to be carried-out in a fully-functional Emergency ward during the middle of the night. Therefore, we had to keep noise down to a minimum, so that patients could get some rest, whilst we built an enclosure to ensure that no asbestos fibres would escape. Air quality within the enclosure was being measured continuously so that if, in an emergency, we had to rapidly ‘pull-down’ the enclosure, we would know what potential hazards would have been released. Fortunately, the entire process was carried out to the complete satisfaction of all stakeholders.
